Although I have learned these values, and so have many other people, numerous people choose not to use them. My value on society today, is not very high. People have become so materialistic and self-induced, it is just sick. Views of people today as opposed to the peoples of ealier decades have completely changed. Give a kid a rock to play with in the 1950’s and they would be happy. Give a kid a rock today and they would probably throw it at you demanding a new cell phone and hundred dollar t-shirt. It is all about the brand names and who is better than whom. Children have lost the value of a dollar and the importance of hard work. They do not realize that “money does not grow on trees” and think everything comes for free. I believe asking your parents for money if you work is wrong and selfish. Why not give back to them, help save for your education, your future? I can say this now, because I evidently now understand a kind of concept of money. I have held a job since the age of thirteen. Growing up I did not have everything handed to me on a silver plate.
“A child, like your stomach, doesn’t need all you can afford to give it. ~Frank A. Clark”
Everyday, everyone gets a chance to our own ticket to the adventure that is life. It is up to us to cash it in. We get an unrestricted number of chances in our lives. Chances to win, lose, or simply play the game. The odds are usually not in favor of us, but we should not underestimate the value of them. We have been taking chances from as far back as we can remember. The outcome of these chances helps us to learn a lesson that we probably could not have learned if it was not for the situation. A lesson that teaches us something important; something we will never forget.
We, as people living in society are like clay. Although pressure may warp our outer shell and cause weakness in our foundation, it can also mold us into better people. As people look at the holes in our structures, they will not point out the negative, but instead our potential to mold ourselves into an even better person.
With everything in life there is always good news and bad news. We, the “people”, have the chance to change the world. We have the opportunity to save lives and create masterpieces. The bull is rushing at you now. You can drop the cape and run or learn how to scream Ole! For we are the mapmakers, and the dream realtors. Life is coming to theatres near you in the blink of an eye and you have the ticket. All you have to do is cash it in. Live life, do not just exist and do something with your being. Remember the teachers and friends that helped us to be independent thinkers by leaving us to hit that one rough assignment with no guidance; those that taught us of commitment by making sure we were at every practice, rehearsal or event; those that helped develop our senses of humor by making us laugh at ourselves; those that taught us how to be good friends by always being there for us; and most importantly of all, taught us to have confidence in ourselves by assuring us that we would be successes.
